Dear Sir,

sometimes I wonder if you are lost.
If that is the case I have drawn you this map.
I hope it helps.

with love,
your Sabrina Danielle

Confession...

Since moving up here to the Polar Ice Caps, also referred to as Provo, I've developed a new love. Before I admit to loving this commonly undesirable thing I need you, dear reader, to promise you will not post a comment, leave a voicemail, or hassle me in any manner for developing a newfound love for this thing of which I'm about to own up to.

Promise?

Ok, here it goes. (Sigh)

After hours of sitting in lectures and doing tedious assignments I find it extremely relaxing to do the dishes. Weird, right? I think I must have slipped on some ice and developed a case of domestic amnesia. It's oddly soothing to do something I used to hate so much. I know admitting that I love doing the dishes will forever banish me to the kitchens of my loved ones...but I guess that makes me kind of like Michelangelo and the dishes the Sistine Chapel. Forever banished for opening up my big mouth.

p.s. Loved ones, you can stop rolling your eyes now.

On Friday I fell in love...

with a man who had no head (typical me).

Sadly, (because the Gap wouldn't allow such a thing) we had to part. And I may or may not have wished he had a head....

Happy Monday!

p.s. This trip to the gap wasn't completely heartbreaking. My toesies got a cozy surprise:)

Dear Feet

I know you've been feeling
claustrophobic and cold.

I know you are tired of trudging through snow,
and slipping on ice.

Good news! Spring is coming!
And when it does I promise we will walk on sandy beaches in San Diego,
take many a dip in the swimming pool, tip toe around sidewalk chalk,
and wiggle in the grass.

Until then my dear tootsies you will be bundled in two pairs of socks and boots.

The 5 Love Languages

If you were wondering my favorite class in the universe is Strengthening Marriage and Family. Why? You might ask. Because it's wonderful! Oh and useful to boot! But that is not the purpose of this post. No, no this post is about something I learned today.  The 5 Love Languages. And here they are:

1. Words of Affirmation
2. Quality Time
3. Receiving Gifts (promoting gold-digging?)
4. Acts of Service
5. Physical Touch

My professor, Dr. Hill, gave us a quiz that determined our love language (remember Iflurtz?) Apparently, I speak the love language of Physical Touch, but Quality Time and Acts of Service ran a close second.  My friend Jessi who is in the class with me was shocked to learn I scored high in Physical Touch. (I think she secretly thought I would score highest for Receiving Gifts). I guess I seem as cuddly as a cactus and as conniving as a mafioso.

Aside from needing to reevaluate how I am perceived by others....my problem now is now I want to ask everyone what their love language is...but that is creepy and weird. Also, probably socially unexceptable.  But I am at the Y..... so maybe I could say it's for research?

p.s. I hope you enjoyed the Gold Mining book...I'm sure it would offer excellent tips on being a literal and figurative Gold digger
p.p.s. The Five Languages of Love was written by Gary Chapman also www.5lovelanguages.com

Ikea

On Friday night I had my first Ikea experience. I must say it was life changing among other things.
My favorite moments:

-Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, and lingonberry sauce. Mmmm:)
-trying to figure out the use for superfluous sock dividers. "Who has twelve pairs of socks?"
-arguing over the ugliest bed in bedroom existence.
-walking halfway through the store and then walking all the way back to use the bathroom.
-having the Ikea police follow us around the entire store. We must've looked suspicious. Or maybe it was because someone kept trying to put things in my purse?
-being really glad we bought the house with two kitchens.
-wondering where the water goes in a shower with no drain?
-staying until they nearly had to push us out of the store
-listening to "Boom, Boom, Pow" on the way home:)

Thanks, Ikear. We'll have to do it again. Maybe next time we'll actually buy what we went there for:)

If planted it will grow...

I came across this quote by President J. Reuben Clark in my D&C manual.

“As I think about faith, this principle of power, I am obliged to believe that it is an intelligent force. Of what kind, I do not know. But it is superior to and overrules all other forces of which we know. . . .

“[We] have had this great power given unto us, this power of faith. What are we doing about it? Can you, can we, do the mighty things that the Savior did? Yes. They have been done by the members of the Church who had the faith and the righteousness so to do. Think of what is within your power if you but live the Gospel, if you but live so that you may invoke the power which is within you.” (In Conference Report, Apr. 1960, p. 21.)

Blah

Today is one of those days...you know the kind I mean. One of those days you just feel like snuggling up in bed and forgetting about to-do lists, drama, and dishes in the sink. Blah. So in honor of this mood I'm posting five things I'm grateful for right now.
Here it goes:
1. Dark Chocolate. Melts troubles like the sun on the 4th of July.
2. The ice being melted on the sidewalks.
3. My new boots. They make me feel European:)
4. The Proclamation. I love that I get to study that document!
5. Ingrid Michaelson. Specifically her song "Keep Breathing"

Ok. I feel slightly better. What do you do to get rid of your blahs?

p.s. I'm obsessed with this proverb.

"Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly"

Week One

This was my very first official week in Provo. Here's what I learned:
-a brand new blue towel makes for a blue Sabrina
-how to break into my apartment. It's pretty easy. Maybe I should consider a life of crime?
-there is such a thing as too many layers
-boys at church are really, really, really friendly. The amount of time they've been home from a mission=how desperate they are.
-blue skies and white snowy mountains make for a lovely morning
-creepy people work out at Gold's Gym
-creepy people walk behind you on your way home from school
-ice is slippery. I mean it.
-losing your keys is a lot like losing your identity
-a dead phone battery=a dead social life
-washing a new blue towel with your clothes is a really bad idea. Unless you want to look like you have Smurf blood all over you.
-soup is sometimes a bad idea
-if you smile at people on campus they think you want them
-Mac & Cheese can be a gourmet meal
-bookstore lines on the first day of school are like lines at Disneyland
-an apple can change your mood
-flannel sheets and a down comforter make for the best sleep ever
-expecting a miracle is the most realistic thing you can do

It's been a week of ups and downs. Mostly a crash course in learning to grow. I can't believe that I'm actually here. Hooray! for surviving week one!
