Wrong Feet

I knew it was going to be a great day when I almost walked out of my
house with my shoes on the wrong feet.

P.s. Today is the first official Snow Day in Happy Valley!

Riddle Me This...

Last week a lady came into the office where I work wearing a beanie, a long sleeved shirt, a puffy vest, capris, and flip flops.
Was she going to the beach later? Or maybe cross country skiing?
One can only wonder.
Then yesterday morning while I was making my trek to Intro to Design I saw a man on campus wearing a black short sleeved shirt, black shorts, black flip flops, and black and gray striped mittens.
At least he had the decency to be consistent with color.

There is a strange fashion phenomenon taking over Utah County.
Tomorrow I'm planning on wearing my swimming suit, ski parka, and rain boots.

Musings on Driver's Licenses and Wiggle Cars

Something catastrophic happened a couple of weeks ago.
I got a small letter from the Department of Public Safety.
A reminder that I need to renew my license soon.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. This can't be right. I'm not that old. Not yet."
I checked my license.
Sure enough it confirmed that I am indeed that old.

I remember being 15 years-old and feeling like my 16th birthday was centuries away.
And then it came and I thought "No. I'm not that old."
My license confirmed that I was certainly that old.

This morning Fia tapped on my shoulder while I checked my email.
"Mina, bike?"
We put on our shoes and went outside to ride the wiggle car.
Before she would sit on the wiggle car she insisted that I sit down first and then she sat down.
The two of us wiggle car-ed around my parents front yard.
Half-way around the yard I realized my neighbors across the street were watching as well as some workers next door.
According to Fia I'm not too old to ride a wiggle car.
Though I'm sure the neighbors and workers thought otherwise.

Happy Weekend!

Excusez-moi?

Last week I was in Banana Republic with my Mom.
While my mom was in the dressing room I heard this convo:

Harried Costumer: I need shorts. Not too short but not too long. With like, a trouser look.
Salesgirl: (to harried costumer) Um, yeah. I don't think you'll be able to find anything like that here. You should try...Old Navy.

They briefly abandon the debacle of the not-too-short-not-too-long-trouser-short as a
mother- to- be fingers a set of brassy bracelets.

Harried Costumer: (to mother-to-be) When are you due?
Mother-to-be: Two months.
Salesgirl: No way!
Mother-to-be: (laughs casually, probably because she expected something other than what the salesgirl said next to come out of her mouth)
Salesgirl: You look like you're about to pop! I mean you're HUGE!

Awkward silence.

Harried Costumer: I already tried Old Navy they didn't have anything.

The two things I learned from this experience.
1) You can't find anything in Banana Republic if you ask a salesperson.
2) If you're pregnant you better avoid the place like the plague.

The Gym Rat

(Does this disturb anyone else? Ok. Good. I'm not alone.)

9:06 a.m. Woke up. Decided I most certainly need to go to the gym if I'm paying for it. Rolled out of bed and found the 24 class schedule

9:08 a.m. Decided to try the 24 s.e.t class whatever that means at 9:30

9:09 a.m. Read class description "This cardio/strength combination class alternates strength exercises to sculpt every major muscle group with easy to follow step moves." Sounds easy enough, eh?

9:15 a.m. Changed into work out clothes and pulled hair back into an awesome ponytail

9:18 a.m. Checked email...bad idea. Got sucked into Elder Morgan's latest update

9:25 a.m. Late!

9:26 a.m. Where is my gym pass?

9:27 a.m. In my pocket. Right where I put it to avoid this situation. Out the door.

9:32 a.m. Pulled into parking lot and hastily made my way to the front door.

9:33 Walked into 24 s.e.t. class.

9:34 Walked out of 24 s.e.t. class*. And decided to try the elliptical.

9:37 Saw my life flash before my eyes as I nearly died on the elliptical.

9:42 Drove home in hysteric laughter.

9:50 Decided I may just stick with Zumba and yoga.

*Apparently 24's definition of a cardio/strength combination class means lifting 50lb weights above your head while you lay on a stinky mat on the floor.

I'm such a gym rat.

Confession #2

I don't know why I feel like I should let you in on all or most of my secrets...
But I have a confession. Again. Here's confession #1
I am a closet rap fan.
That's right ya'll. Rap.

Last September on my 2oth birthday my sister Monica convinced me to go to Zumba with her.
I was a bit reluctant because anything that starts with a "z" instantly sounds intimidating.
But I went.
This started my obsession with Zumba, The Warehouse, and strobe lights.
Soon I found myself listening to Black Eyed Peas, Kat Da Luna, and yes, even Pitbull. Hahahaha!
The funny or sad depending on how you look at it thing is
whenever I get homesick here at the Y I listen to a little "Boom Boom Pow" and
I'm right as rain again.
I think there's something wrong with me.

Post Edit: I couldn't resist. Enjoy my homies:)

Oh yeah...

Yesterday I remembered that with the change of winter to spring,
I am graced by the presence of Allergies. Or as I cleverly refer to him Al.
How did I forget Al?
Yesterday Al reared his ugly head in the form of sneezing, coughing, and itchy eyes.
He's trying to make me forget how much I love spring.
Luckily, in a few weeks I hope Al will go back to his pollen infested home
and I will go back to forgetting that Al is any part of my life.
Until next year that is.

What's In a Name?

For 2 semesters at Dixie I had Spanish and institute with this kid named Danny.
But for some reason I always called him Jeff.
"Hey Jeff!"
"My name is Danny."
"Yep. And when I called you Jeff I totally meant Danny."

I think he thought I was trying to be funny, or cute.
But I wasn't. I was suffering from acute name amnesia.
So for a while I tried another approach.
"Hihowsitgoin?"
I tried saying it fast enough that he wouldn't notice I couldn't remember his name.
"My name is Danny."
"Right, Jeff."

Eventually I gave up altogether.
I would just wave silently when I saw him.
And I know he secretly wanted to yell across campus
"My. Name. Is. Danny!"

Where ever you are Danny, I'm sorry. I really wish after two semesters of being in the same classes I could have mastered your name. However, you will always be Jeff to me.

You Are What You Read

Recently I read this article about a serial rapist in the midwest.
I know stupid, stupid, stupid. Especially if you know me.
I take these things and internalize them.
I knew it was a bad idea, but I couldn't stop reading it.
Even more so I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Especially because he got off with something like 200 hours of community service. Another rant for another day.

Saturday it snowed in Provo.
SNOW! in March.
I decided to go down to my friends, the Johansen's, to do some snowy day yoga. Blissful!
I changed into my yoga pants, pulled on a sweater and walked through my always dim light hallway. I opened the front door and then I let out a blood curdling scream.
I'm sure my neighbors thought I had been assaulted.
And there, with eyes as big as saucers, was my roommates ex-boyfriend. And next to him with equally large and saucery eyes was my roommate.
I felt like a complete moron.
They kept asking if I was ok...the only problem was I having a fit of hysteria
and laughing so hard that the only thing I could do was nod my head.
I walked out the door and past them. I could feel their eyes follow me as I sobbed and walked down the stairs to 205.

Needless to say yoga was much needed.

Distracted

Lately I've been distracted.
I don't like being distracted.
Normally.
Some day I might explain.
Today I won't.
Someday.

P.s. I've had a fierce craving to build a fort lately. I just might put it on my to-do list for this weekend.
